The
Basic Parts of an Alarm System
There
are 4 basic parts to any alarm system;
- Control
Panel - This is the heart of the alarm system. The control
panel is an electronic circuit board installed in a metal
box that normally includes a power supply, microprocessor
(essentially a very simple computer), connection points
for all system wiring and the alarm communicator (for communication
with an off site monitoring station).
- Alarm
Keypad(s) - The alarm keypad is the most familiar component
to the end user. This is the device that lets you tell the
system what to do (arming and disarming) and tells you what
is happening in the system (alarm status, trouble conditions,
etc.)
- Sensors
- These are devices such as motion sensors, door switches,
window switches and glassbreak sensors that detect the presence
of an intruder and notify the control panel.
- Alarm
Annunciators - Alarm signaling devices such as sirens
and strobe lights that indicate that the alarm system has
been triggered.
Each
of these components will be described in greater detail in
the following sections.

Great
Canadian Dollar Store

When
I opened my fifth store at Admirals walk, I decided to give
Quality Alarms the opportunity to monitor the alarm system.
Over the course of the next year, I had them switch my other
four locations to their monitoring station and have received
friendly personal service with significant financial savings.
