ULC
Listed Fire Alarm Monitoring
Commercial
and residential buildings with fire alarm panels should always
be monitored. If a sprinkler system has been installed the
building code requires you to subscribe to a ULC listed fire
monitoring service.
While
many clients are still paying as much as $100 a month for
direct line (DVAC) fire alarm monitoring, Quality Alarms provides
ULC listed fire alarm monitoring using "dual dialer"
technology for only $24.95 a month. This service is fully
recognized by ULC, the Canadian Building Code, and all local
municipalities as a commercial fire alarm monitoring service.
As with all of our services we do not require you to sign
a long term contract. ULC regulations require that you have
an annual inspection performed on the equipment, which we
have included in the monthly monitoring fee.
To
provide this service we must install a ULC approved, "dual
dialer" fire alarm communicator which will cost about
$450 to $500. The system communicates with the monitoring
station using two standard phone lines. These phone lines
do not have to be dedicated to the fire panel, the panel simply
uses the phone line for about 15 seconds each time it transmits
a message to the monitoring station. Signals sent to the monitoring
station include fire and sprinkler alarms, fire and sprinkler
trouble, and a daily test signal. The system will also notify
us within 60 seconds if one of the phone lines fails (or is
disconnected) by transmitting a trouble signal over the second
phone line.
It
should be understood that if both phone lines fail within
60 seconds of each other no trouble signal will be transmitted
(as there will be no phone line available for communication).
The monitoring station will become aware of the fact that
the phone lines have failed within 24 hours when the daily
test signal is not sent by the panel.
